Bee The Change!

Bee the Change!

Dear Bee Supporters,

So…where do we go from here?

Many of you have seen More Than Honey and heard about and witnessed the state of commercial bees, but what about our own backyard bees? Are they declining as well? The answer is yes, and no. In Montecito, 16 hives were lost last fall. At the same time, many communities are reporting a steady number of bees. So there is hope. Always hope.

What can we do?

Help the SBBA achieve our goal of making Santa Barbara a Honey Bee Haven. It only takes 500 houses to put our county on the map, and there were 420 of us in the theatre Friday night! We can do this.

Help the SBBA achieve our goal of making Santa Barbara a Honey Bee Haven. It only takes 500 houses to put our county on the map, and there were 420 of us in the theatre Friday night learning about the plight of the bees! We can do this.

First, eliminate toxic pesticides in your own home and garden, and then plant some pollinator-friendly plants and flowers. Once you do that, go online to honeybeehaven.org an “Add your Haven” (Note: it helps to zoom in on the map before placing your star).

If you’d like to go further, “Take The Pledge” or “Do More” on the website menu. By ordering a Honey Bee Haven yard sign you spread the word and show your neighbors you are protecting not only your environment but theirs as well.

Also, please feel free to ask us questions via email, or contact one of the local sustainable gardeners listed here (Bee The Change!). This handout provides many details regarding things you can do to help our honeybees.

We are all working toward the same goal, and together we can make a difference. Please consider making a donation to our many educational efforts.

Thank you,
Santa Barbara Beekeepers Association
